Mag Citrate, Probiotic, Udo Oil (flax, sunflower, sesame oil), Gas-X

We went into the Dr. today for a follow-up visit. I told him I

followed his advice of 1 capful Miralax/day for 48 hours and then

stopped for the last 10 days and a probiotic (1 chewable tablets/day)

and Udo Oil (1 Tbsp/day) instead. He thought there was still some

distension in my son's bowels. He did a rectal exam (my son

tolerated it well :-), I thought it would be worse) and said there

was still some stuff in there, but it was soft. I'm seeing that as

he has lots of small-medium sized, soft stools. In addition to that,

he recommended 2oz/day of Mag Citrate for 3 days (seems like everyone

talks in terms of mg - I think that translates to 567 mg) and a

tablet of Gas-X twice a day.

Does that sound reasonable in terms of dosage for a 3 1/2 year old,

43 pound child? I've seen some posts where you're giving larger

doses of Mag Citrate, but I'm not always sure of your child's

age/size.

Is this an OK longer-term solution?

We'll go back for another follow-up in 2 weeks to check progress.

On another note, I haven't really touched potty training since he's

had encopresis since his 3rd b-day and prior to that constipation a

la " nothing-for-7-10-days-and-then-a-huge-mass. " Does anyone have

any advice on when in this cycle of correction/healing to try potty

training? I feel like we're on the right path to correcting his

issues, but given that we're only 10 days into this, I don't think

he's at the point where he can feel that he needs to have a BM. I

think we could tackle the pee side of things, but without bowel

control, I'd just be setting myself up for a lot of mess and him for

a lot of failures.

Thanks!!! This group has been tons of help.
