How long will swelling last???

Can someone tell me, what's the longest you've gone with a joint swollen

a couple sizes bigger than normal? Generally when mine do, the swelling

subsides within several days. My *right thumb has been swelled (twice

its size) and giving me so much pain it is ridiculous, for at least 2

months now.

On my visit last month to the arthritis doctor he got to see it first

hand and agreed it was swelled more than any joint swelling I've had.

So he started the Medrol dose pack again, and am now on the 10 mg Pred

daily...but the swelling just will not go down in this joint. The other

problem joints finally subsided, but not this stubborn one.

So question is... how long, is too long?
