Guest guest
Hi Everybody ! Just got back from the 1984 batch reunion. Had a grand, grand time. As always, I'm fascinated by the way the children take to each other as if they have known each other for years ! Seema and Shyam Kamath and their beautiful daughter, Sohana, came from Riyadh on a tight schedule - they came specifically only for the reunion. They look just as they did all those years ago - actually, it is amazing how many looked just the same - though with a few signs of prosperity ! Irfan, Anju and their children - Sanaa and Yahya - came from Jalgaon. There is absolutely no change in Anju - time seems to have stood still for her ! As for Irfan, as one of the children put it - " Irfan Uncle looks cool " . Coming from a teenager, Ifran, that's a huge compliment ! Their daughter, Sanaa, is very confident, very accomplished and graceful. She seemed absolutely at home in Sewagram ! Their son, Yahya, found a group of friends his age, and was absolutely at ease with them. Sanjeev Kishore and Surekha - and their children - Shikhar and Shivar - were absolutely the life of the party. Shikhar and Divya had been classmates in class 1 in the Kasturba Vidya Mandir at Sewagram, so it was a bit of a reunion for them as well. Shikhar and Shivar are awesome singers - and boy, do they have attitude on stage !!! - They rock !! (In addition to being very affectionate children as well, that is !) Atul and Madhobi Dev Burman also look just the same. Both their daughters are very sweet. The older daughter - Mamita - is a little quiet, but the younger one is absolutely friendly ! OP Sharma and Neeta came in all the way from Canada. Their elder daughter, Shivani, has grown from a chubby little child into a svelte, elegant teenager ! I almost couldn't believe that it was the same Shivani ! Their younger daughter - Himani - is a true copy of her sister - and is a very outgoing child. Chandan came with her husband and two daughters from Ohio. Chandan has lost a lot of wieght - and looks absolutely elegant. Her husband, Sandeep, is not an alumnus from MGIMS, but he became very much a part of the entire gang ! Nishi flew in from Delhi - and she looks absolutely great ! It was almost difficult to believe that this confident, smart, eloquent lady was same studious batchmate of ours! Renuka, and her childrem Aisha and Ditto, came in from Chicago. We missed having Ashok with us - he couldn't make it. Renuka is the same, with the same refreshing I-will-do-what-I-please-and-you-may-think-what-you-please flavour ! God bless her for keeping that alive for all these years. Aisha is the same, adorable child, and Ditto is just awesome with his observations ! Brajpal Tyagi had come from Ghaziabad - he also looked very elegant - the salt and pepper hair only added to the elagance. Brajpal had made a trip to Sewagram earlier in August just to help organise the reunion - and had worked hard to bring this to fruition. It is thanks mainly to him, Irfan, Shyam and of course, Vijayashree who had struggled through all the groundwork in Sewagram, that the reunion was such a success !! Vijayashree Deotale has been the absolute pillar around whom all of us rallied to get the reunion organised. Her husband, Abhijeet, has been a very strong support. Their son, Adwait, is a very balanced and affectionate young boy - and their daughter - Mihika - is absolutely adorable ! She was most amused by the fuss we made over Vijyashree on her birthday on the 27th - during the reunion. Brajpal would apply cake icing on Viju, and Mihika would immediately wipe it off ! Lots more to tell - about many more people - I shall continue in part 2 !!! Cheers, Prabha '
