Suza,

i would have yuor blood pressure checked but i know from experience that when I

get a bad headache i definetly get that throbbing and it feels like my head is

going to explode and I have even hyperventilated. Get you blood pressure check

but try to relax when you get headaches that bad, ice on the back of your head

has worked great for me too.

all,

I hope this message finds all doing as well as possible. =)

I have a few questions regarding headaches. I've never considered

the pain I have in my head a true 'headache', but my Neuro says that

this pain I feel is indeed, a headache...go figure.

Anyway....is a Chiari headache one that is pulsating and throbbing?

Or are there several 'types' of headaches that one might be

describing when they say they have true Chiari headache. Ugh...I

hope this sounds close to what I'm trying to say....lol.

Almost daily, lately, my blood pressure raises significantly (160

over 105) and I have this horrible pulsating and throbbing pain in my

head. I'm trying to figure out if this is a blood pressure problem,

causing a headache type pain...or is this a headache that makes my

blood pressure rise.

I hope I'm making some sort of sense here and not confusing you guys

as much as I'm confused myself! =)

Thanks for any help or advice on this one,

Hi Suzy

I had just what you are describing before my decompression. My BP

would get very high very irradically. I have to stay on a pretty high

dose of my BP med just to keep from hitting those highs. Some of my

PCP's have tried to lower the dose or take me off completely, as my BP

runs about 100/60 on the med, but as soon as they lower the dose, it

gets really high again.

The way I can tell the difference?? First of all, when my BP is high,

I can not lay still to try to sleep. I feel like I have " things "

literally under my skin. My head definitely throbs but it is usually

in the front of my head and at the temples when my BP is really high.

With my ACM headaches, it's like a vice on the back of my head. It

usually begins in my neck and runs up the back and up both sides of

the back of my head. It's more a constant pain.

You might want to ask for a tilt table test. I failed mine, and

learned that Chiari can cause autonomic dysfunction which controls

your blood vessels, BP and heart rate. Also, I'd see a good

cardiologist if the tilt table is positive. Mine taught me a lot

about how the brain effects the heart and vessels! Just a thought.

Hope this helps!
