suddenly very blurry vision

I've got something wierd going on. I've always had vision problems,

which may or may not be chiari related. My chiari is mild and mostly

asymptomatic right now, but I also have a syrinx, which is narrow,

and was probably caused by a combination of a mild spinal cord injury

+maybe the chiari. There was no CSF block on my MRI, and if there is

one now I would be suprised because nothing feels different. I take

daily cyclobenzaprine, which can affect vision when used long term,

but this has come on sort of suddenly, and I thought I'd ask if this

sounds familiar to anybody because there is such a wealth of

information/experience here. I'm pretty sure my neuro's going to draw

a blank for the cause of this, and my eye doc will probably blame it

on the meds.

I've been doing great lately...I have all my range of motion (for a

change), and have been working out, cutting back on meds (a good

thing). But when I wake up in the mornings for the past week or 2 my

vision is so blurry that even my +3 reading glasses don't help much.

They make text (like this) legible but not anywhere near clear. My

vision is *really* blurry. As the morning goes on my vision will lose

the blurriness, and text will look like letters again without my

glasses, instead of just a fuzzy grey blur. It's like I wake up with

20/600 vision and my eyes can't focus and by noon it's back to 20/100

or 20/200, which is more normal for me. Does this sound familiar to

anybody?

I wanted to get some input before I mention it to the docs.

I would love to hear answers to this as well. I have had blurry vision this

past week and another time. Both times my headache was very, very bad. I

remember walking and seeing things looking " smokey " and unclear. It is weird

and scary! It went away last time, so I didn't mention it to the Dr's and

figured it was from my intense headache. But it happened again this week,

hopefully will stop again on it's own!

Thanks,

May you receive life's many blessings.,

---You may be having migrain H/A along with Chiari H/A. I remember

long time ago I started with auras and cracked vision, that were brought on

by stress I beleive. Watch your diet, and eat nuts, grains, berrirs, along with

your regular diet, and see if eating natural foods don't help,Lots of

luck...Jerry in Carolina...

I suffer from incredibly painful headaches. Unfortunately, blurry

vision is just one of the side effects of this.

Is your pressure elevated? Do your hands tremor?

Before my decompression....I would turn my head and my vision would be so blurry

that I could not drive or read until it passed.....my vision progressively got

worse. If I raised my head upward I could see better. Weird huh!

Another good reason to have decompression by a qualified doctor.

Hi everyone,

Please have your eyes checked for papilladema (swelling of the optic

nerves) by an ophthalmologist if you are experiencing visual

problems.

If you have or suspect you have PTC or high intracranial pressure,

you should be monitored for papilladema. (Can go hand-in-hand with

chiari-related conditions)

Symptoms can include blurry vision, visual disturbances with

floaters, enlarged blind spots, loss of peripheral vision, gray or

black-outs.

Increased CSF pressure on the optic nerves can cause permanent vision

loss and with the all of the other things we have to worry about,

going blind should not be one of them.

I personally was diagnosed first with papilladema by my

ophthalmologist which lead to my chiari-related diagnosis (TCS, CCI,

Cranial Settling) I have had to undergo Optic Nerve Sheath Surgery to

save my vision as I was losing it very rapidly. BUT I have regained

most by getting the treatment I needed.

My Chiari symptoms are mild (well, not to me but certainly compared

to others here). My main problems are neck/head pain and lots of

dizziness. But my vision drives me crazy. I started having blurry

vision over a year ago and went to the eye dr. I explained that it

came on suddenly and wasn't all the time, but mostly late afternoon

into evening. They told me it was age. (I am 43). When I was

diagnosed with Chiari, a local neurosurgeon suggested I see an

opthomologist, which I did. I again explained it wasn't constant,

but came on suddenly. He actually knew something about Chiari, and

said that although age may be a big factor (as well as lots of time

on the computer), Chiari might also be involved. He also noticed

that one pupil was larger than the other, but " behind my eyes " (he

used much more technical terms) was fine.

I could be reading or watching tv, then wham! I can't see too much.

Some times it is so severe, I just give up and go to bed. :)

I have noticed, by looking at certain lights, that I also have some

double vision. I am going to TCI (yeah!) at the end of the month and

am REALLY HOPING that this is Chiari related.

Oh, I also gave up driving at night because of this.

Hope this helps.
