The Board of Education is required to develop and adopt state special education rules in compliance with the regulations approved during the1997 re-authorization of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. After a process lasting more than 2 years, during which the school board received input from school system staff, families, and other interested parties, the board will vote whether or not to adopt the current draft. The board meeting will be held in the Department of Education boardroom, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Twin Towers East (Sloppy Floyd Building), 20th Floor, Atlanta. GCARE MESSAGE The GCARE steering committee supports the currently proposed draft of the special education rules. GCARE would like to see new state rules in place immediately so that schools can begin implementation. GCARE also encourages the school board to request more dollars for special education support and related services. Written comments can still be submitted.
