Guest guest
I had my ICT on Feb. 7th. and surgery on the 8th. I also stayed over night. I think it's mainly b.c you have a big surgery the next day and you would have to be there any way at 4AM. I was whisked off to surgery at 6:15 AM. I'm glad that I stayed the night as I was still very uncomfortable after the ICT and would have worried more about the surgery if I was at the hotel. I would be thinking all night that I have to get up and get ready to be at the hospital at 4:30 AM/ I don't think insurance would pay for you to stay overnight if you weren't having surgery the next day. I was told ahead of time that I would be staying the night and that is how it was stated on my insurance authorization for the ICT. I see on our support group that most go back to the hotel after the ICT unless they are having CCF and decompression the next day. Thanks for your update. You are so brave to do this surgery without a family member or friend with you. I don't think I could have done it. Darlene -- CCF/Decompression Sugery -- Part I Morning Group Members -- I'll be posting my surgery story in phases b/c it will be so much easier on me for typing and easier on all of you to keep each post relatively short. I was met at the airport by Becky and Matt and Beth (from Austrailia) and they taxied me to the Floral Park Motor Lodge and then they went back to the airport to pick up Virginia and brought her to the Floral Park and we all met in Virginia's room and had a wonderful visit. Becky was having her CCF surgery the next day, Nov. 19th and then Virginia was scheduled for TC surgery Nov. 21st and I was scheduled for CCF surgery on the 21st, too. Virginia and I had basically the same pre-surgical appts., so we just hung around together and shared taxi cab rides. That was a real long day for both of us, Nov. 19th, with all the various appts. at various places. When I met with Dr. R he told me that they would be doing a modified decompression in addition to the CCF. That was a bit of a surprise to me. We then went out to eat at the Triple Crown Diner. The next day, the 20th, Virginia and I were both scheduled for ICT. Me at 2:30 and Virginia at 4:30. The ICT was a breeze for me. They put you under to affix the ICT and then you wake up for the weight- bearing procedure. I felt wonderful relief and clear headed at 25 lbs., but asked them to make sure that that was the correct weight by adding more weight once again. Yep, 25 lbs. was the magic no. for me. More weight or less weight increased the pain. Unfortunately, I did not get a pix of me in the ICT contraption. So, the CCF and modified decompression were on for the 21st. I went back to the motel after the ICT -- thank you Matt for the ride ! However, Virginia stayed the night in the hospital after her ICT -- recall Virginia has the Jefferson fracture (broken neck) and the ICT was difficult and resulted in a lot of pain afterwards. I was pretty worried about Virginia when she never showed up in recovery while I was there. It was when her sister came back to the motel that I had my suspicions confirmed, Virginia was taken on to a room after ICT and recovery and would be spending the night in the hospital. Guest guest
Yes that is a down side of spending the night in the hospital. I missed my husband terribly, but he stayed late and was there bright and early. I am so thankful that he has been there for me...for most every appointment, every test, every surgery. I hope that everyone else some one that they can rely on. I don't know how I could have managed these past 17 years without him.
