Guest guest
, Welcome aboard! I could really use your input on chelation--I've been following it on the RecoveredKids group but didn't think anyone in GA was doing any metal detoxification. We're getting our son tested through Jeff Bradshaw's office and thought we'd have to go to Florida for help. Thanks for spreading the word through the FEAT channels. The group is relatively new -- only since the Spring -- but it's revving up and I'm hoping to have the time to promote it on other lists and through local resources. Guest guest
I'll give you a URL to a doc in California. I have been talking to one of his patients and they tell me, because of their body's poor state, that this doctor chose to use Chinese herbal chelation. It may take longer to rid of the metals, but it doesn't tear tissue as the chelation is working, it's pretty close to the natural way your body chelates. I know Dr. Edelson. I will give you my opinion of the service I received after I receive my test results and his recommendations. here is the URL: http://www.mmvbs.com/ At 12:00 AM 9/3/00 -0400, you wrote: > >Hi ...welcome...what about herbs? & do you know any bad doctors that I >should steer clear of? Guest guest
Lesli, I had a Heavy Metal Challenge test on at Edelson's office and I don't recommend it. I'm also a member of a group of adults that are recovering from mercury poisoning, mainly from amalgams.(I'm ok, I joined to learn) These people are really intelligent, with some doctors that are recovering as well, so, if you're a buff on the layman's terms like me, it's very hard to follow. I ask some questions and get answers, but I think some of them are a little annoyed at my questions(being so basic). I'm getting to understand some of the " lingo " and researching their therapies and supplements they use. Though they have different problems,ALS, MS, and such, they are taking the data from testing and developing ways to supplement their bodies toward self healing, non drug related. After years of researching and " trying " different supplements, secretin, vitamins, therapies, and such, I have discovered that it's got to be " start from ground zero, and work up from there " in healing my son of autism. These days, could be considered HFA, but his lack of speech keeps him from being whole. He has stopped growing this past year and has begun to develop allergies, which are at this time are being alleviated by zyrtic. His lack of consumption of proper foods has forced me to use a juicer, pour fresh juices down him, working with him to drink it. I was using alot of fruits, but I'm not convinced that his leaky gut is healed and that he may still have candida overgrowth, so I switched to veggie juices. As you probably know, secretin has been proven and under the eye of the FDA, of having the ability to heal the leaky gut. In some children, it has healed 60% is some autistic in one infusion. <snip>Secretin Improves Intestinal Permeability in Autistic Children.<snip> http://www.repligen.com/News/PressReleases/pr000809.html To note, I have had on a dairy free diet for 8 months now and a gluten free diet for about 5. I seen improvements each time. has had 5 ferring secretin infusions in the past 2 years. and 2 since he was put on the gf/cf diet. I went with another test, urine peptide test, to see if he still has a leaky gut, I was advised to allow him gluten 3 weeks before testing for a accurate result. has had no negative response to eating gluten. I believe this will prove to be that he has a healed leaky gut(hoping). I'm using one lab through the doc and different lab through my local doc. I believe that the best way to go about healing liver function and leaky gut is to have the leaky gut healed first, otherwise you have the liver dumping toxins into a leaky gut to be redistributed into the blood system. Some say that chelation works only with the kidneys. I'm not gonna take the chance. But, before you can heal a leaky gut, you have to rid of the candida. I've been told that most children with autism have a deformed liver at birth. I don't know if it's true, but I'm gonna go on that presumption. I know my son is having a liver detoxification problem at this time. This deformed liver can function properly, by a cleansing and proper supplements. And that's pretty much me, for now....... Guest guest
, Thanks so much for sharing your family's history. Have you heard of or seen Dr. , a GI who works out of ish Rite (now called Children's Healthcare of Atlanta)? worked on the initial secretin study in Atlanta a couple of years back and told me he's interested in gluten and casein research now. He admitted that he saw some interesting results with the study. He's also more open-minded than his counterpart at that office, Stanley Cohen, although not as alternative as Van Benschoten and Associates. Great website! I know parents who have had bad experiences with Edelson. Let me know if you think he's doing good work with your son -- I've been warning parents away from Edelson because of the high fees he charges (doesn't accept insurance at all, from what I understand) and the lack of substantiated results. But if he's helping families, I want to share the good news. Is he doing the chelation or are you seeing the specialists in California for that treatment? Did you use ABA to work on 's speech? My son was completely nonverbal when he started ABA, but began talking a year into it -- now he talks all the time! It's not the answer for everyone, especially if health problems are interfering, but we had good success with it. Re: eating problems, you may want to also look at archived posts on the RecoveredKids list at . There's an ABA food program that I'm using now -- it's been the only thing that's worked to introduce " proper " foods to my son. Our GFCF diet trial was a disaster, so we're trying this first to expand his menu choices and hope to reintroduce the diet down the road. He'll now take chewable vitamins and supplements that he wouldn't touch before, plus real fruits and veggies (not great with veggies, but definitely better!). Thanks for the info -- sounds like you've really done your homework to help get better. Wish you guys all the best. Guest guest
I haven't heard of Dr. and yes, Dr. Edelson charges alot. His lack of knowledge on the benefits of secretin through a red flag up for me, along with his lack of concern for testing to see if the leaky gut was healed before using chelation. As you probably know, most metal deposits will enter the kidney's if not all for anyone that has a proper biological function. In my son's case, it's questionable. Secretin being heavily watched as Repligen test it's effectiveness by the FDA, is known to help in the healing of a leaky gut. Dr. Edelson jumped on me because of my use with my son over the past two years, stating that I had thrown my money away. I think his arrogant ways were in fear as I looked deep into his eyes as we discussed the beliefs that people have in treating autistic children. I think he feels offended as parents of these children come into his office knowing almost as much as he does about the therapies that these children need. These parents cannot tell you why in a scientific way the true reasoning for the needs of these therapies, but they know enough to lead them to what is needed. In his books he tells of using certain things to " alleviate suffering " , but when I talked about secretin, he was outraged. Wasn't secretin first thought of as a alleviator of suffering? His books also describe a way of healing one's body and mind by getting financial situations under control, but he charges a extreme amount and tells you if you don't follow his protocol, who know's what will happen. I asked if I should set up cranial sacrial therapy, which is derived from the Upledger Institute, so, as goes through chelation therapy, the massaging of the brain and spine might help the fluids(blood and spinal fluid to the brain) release the metals to cause a more rapid recovery. He asked me where was the science? Where was the proof that these therapies work? YET! He prescribes body massage before sauna to help release metal deposits in his book and on his videos. He also has hanging in his office a sign, one of many, and this sign reads " The 3 stages of truth: Ridiculed, violently opposed, and , accepted as truth. I guess this is something he believes in, being that it's hanging inside his office, but he doesn't think the Upledger Institute is accountable?? He contradicts his self in many ways. It must be hard being God. I may be speaking out of tern, I have not received my test results back yet. He and I have not talked about his recommendations that he OWES me. If I do not get these recommendations from him, that I paid for.... his name will be mud. I will tell him this too. I know a billion people, and he will ALWAYS remember me. As far as ABA, I'm introducing the desensitizing therapy into the school this year and hope that this will help . The Teech program has been introduced into the school system this year(finally) and I hope to have a good year. At this time it is hard for me to concentrate on the academics of autism as my son's health has deteriorated traumatically in the past 8 months.
