Severe Hashimoto's

I am a 19-year-old college student that was diagnosed with Hashimoto's

this April. My doctor started treating me with Levothyroxine and

everything seemed fine. However this August my condition began to get

much worse with heart palpitation, joint and muscle pain, extreme

fatigue, goiter, breathing issues, migraines, etc. My doctor has been

regularly testing my thyroid levels and increasing the dosage of my

levothyroxine. She also stuck me on Prednisone to suppress my immune

system and get my thryoid to stop swelling, Atenolol to treat the

migraines and heart issues, and a bunch of pain medications. However

nothing seems to be working and I just keep getting worse. My doctor

says that this is the worse case she's ever seen, and she's stumped. I

don't know what else to do and I can't find a whole lot of information

on the web. Does anyone have any ideas about treatment or of other

cases like this or about where I can find more information?

Welcome to our group -- sorry you're feeling so badly.

The first thing to do is to get a copy of your bloodwork showing your

thyroid levels and post them here. You should be getting your free T3

and free T4 tested in addition to your TSH. Many doctors don't give a

high enough dosage of thyroid meds, so you first want to make sure

you're getting ENOUGH of the Levothyroxine.

If that doesn't work, the next step would be to try switching to a

different kind of thyroid med like Armour or Cytomel.

The third and most challenging thing we usually hear about is getting

the adrenals tested and treated, but after 7 years of Hashis I'm

finally trying to pursue that avenue and there is SUCH a lack of any

kind of support in figuring that out--it's very frustrating, so I

wouldn't recommend going down that road until you've exhausted the

different thyroid treatment options.

Our group has many knowledgeable people who will weigh in I'm sure.

Hi,

I used to be on Levothyroxine too. I switched to Armour and noticed a difference in two weeks. I take Iodoral bc I had a goiter also. You will probably want to have your adrenals checked. Often they are low with us Hashi's people. I only began to feel better when I started to be treated by an holistic doctor. I went through two endocrinologists before that.

This is what worked for me, plus many other supplements, Vit C, Vit D, DHEA, Multi Vit.

Hang in there, I am sure there will be others that will post what has worked for them.

Good luck,
