Guest guest
You know, the side effect of NOT taking your meds could be that you end up DEAD. But then you wont have to worry about those other side effects. Asthma is nothing to play around with. The reason you get tired when your asthma gets bad is that you arent perfusing oxygen the way your body is meant to be doing so. You exhale carbon dioxide which is the by product of your cells, it is replaced by incoming oxygen that you breathe in. Without that oxygen your bodys cells starve and then start to die and eventually your body shuts down. O2 sats (the amount of oxygen in your blood) are usually one of the last things to decrease in an asthma attack. In EMT school, we were taught that an asthmatic with good O2 sats is the better case scenario vs an asthmatic with poor 02 sats. The meds will help you get the oxygen you need to function. You arent doing yourself any favors by not taking the medications. For the most part you probably wont even experience anything. Maybe you will, but if you arent willing to try, you wont know. Please at least give them a shot while you look for a new doctor. People with chronic conditions (myself included at times) can be so stubborn when it comes to just buckling down and doing what they are supposed to do. Diabetics eating/drinking full sugar deserts/drinks, not paying attention to what/when they eat, not taking their insulin right. Asthmatics not taking meds or doing things they know will cause them problems etc. Then they wonder why they end up in the hospital..or when they are frequent flyers b/c they refuse to take responsibility for themselves, they wonder how/why doctors know them and get flustered with them. (off my EMT soapbox now...) That being said, there are people who truly DO what they are supposed to and still end up being frequent flyers to the ER through no fault of their own. Guest guest
I have been resting all day in the AC. I just woke up from a 2 1/2 hour nap. And i did take my meds today. I normally do fine without them and when i do have problems i use the albuterol and my home nebulizer. And that always works. But i will continue to use my meds untill i get in with my new doctor and discuss things with him. I am just so concerned with all of the medication i am on I cut back on all of it. I just dont trust my doctor they prescribe me what they get paid to prescribe. I always get samples which is good but also makes me worrie weather or not it is the best choice for me. This is exactly why i need to find a new doctor that i can trust. Thanks for all of the help with this i am just trying to learn what asthma is all about. Guest guest
I've had asthma for 3 years came out of the blue, I came out of Christmas eve mass into the cold air and BAM it hit me, I had no idea because asthma shows it's ugly face in different ways in everyone, I had no wheezing just this barking cough that would not give up. I ended up on some prescription cough medicine in it that had codeine. Anyways I've had a lot of trials and errors in my few years of asthma, I didn't like Advair but I used it until we ran out of money to pay for it, that landed me in the ER with PFN's in the low 200's or was it lower than that? After that I took it serious. I take my meds faithfully every day, never miss a dose and if I have trouble with my pfn's I immediately treat for it so far it's worked and outside of a fast heart rate and shaky hands that wears off after the first few doses it's not so bad. I use to rebel against taking so many meds until I realized IF I don't I'll die and leave behind my children and dh, many nieces and nephews not to mention a large family who care about me. I can't do that to them. With my leg swelling (It didn't do it yesterday since I was banned to the couch with pillows under my leg (I wouldn't want it everyday but it was nice to be waited on for a change LOL) Did not happen yesterday guess because it was higher than my heart, I even put lotion on the leg because it's so dry and I figured if it was going to swollen at least it would be soft and not so tight. I also started taking Motrin and baby aspirin like I read in the article, LOL baby aspirin is pretty good LOL So please take your meds, you'll find an amazing difference and feel like a new baby bird ready to fly and live life again. Just give it a try. Don't let the news scare you with all these lawsuits, people are very sue happy Terry I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I just wish that He didn't trust me so much. ~Mother Teddy Bear's Early Learning Program Established August of 1992 Re: tired and restless I have been resting all day in the AC. Guest guest
I would take your meds regularly they are only going to help regulate you so that you can stay asthma free, once you heal from your initial diagnose and learn to stay away from your triggers you may not be so tired, but asthma poops you out. It has taken me a year to accept my asthma, and really understand what it is and take it serious it is a hard concept to accept but once you do, you can learn how to control it.
