Hi Donna,

Tai Chi is an all-round beneficial activity, and in my experience it has helped

with stress; relaxation; flexibility and balance. The routine of the moves helps

to train and/or imprint in the mind and muscle so to speak foot and leg

placement (i.e. to lift your leg high enough when walking vs. a shuffle where

you might trip) and has shown great benefit in patients fighting illnesses like

Parkinson's disease.

Other things that you may want to consider are: Yoga (lots of different kinds

for different ages and needs); Pilates (same goes as Yoga); or 'warm water pool'

exercise.

I did the later last fall and miss it terribly and am trying to find another

pool program. Some pools have lowered amounts of chemicals (i.e, us ozone) and

different temperatures.

Because I have Lyme disease + other co-infections, my body temperature is very

low where I even wear a wet-suit top in the pool to keep warm! The gentle

movements in the water take the stress off of the joints while I am able to

stretch and improve my mobility and endurance.

Kind regards,

/ Charolette  :-)

Hi Charolette, yes, Tai Chi can be so beneficial IF one does not have

Orthostatic Intolerance/full neurological ME. The extended standing in Tai

Chi can cause the BP to plummet. If one has ME it can be quite harmful. But

as you have Lyme/coinfections, your situation is different, and such that I

can see where it would help you a lot.

The same goes for Yoga and Pilates. The muscle metabolism issues with ME

prevent the beneficial effects of those disciplines for PWME. LIGHT

stretching (nowhere near even the gentlest Yoga routine) can help though.
