Guest guest
After such superb movies like Finding Nemo and Ratatouille, one has tall expectations from the makers, who have now presented their newest animation " Wall E " , almost as tall as the skyscrapers that one sees in the opening shots of the film. And there is no disappointment. Disney Pixar delivers and how! The awe inspiring tall skyscrapers, turns out, are not exactly those, but mountains and mountains of junk and garbage that we humans have created through the years. Set in an all too plausible future of 1000 years hence, Wall E is the sad story of an abandoned earth, which has become non-livable because humans have covered it with enormous amounts of junk and trash. Wall E (pronounced as Wally) is a small trash compactor robot, who has been left behind by mistake on this inhospitable planet called earth. Unable to think clearly, he continues with his programmed job of collecting all the discarded tins and plastics throwaways, and compresses them into neat squares of building blocks, with which he builds those skyscrapers. Unfortunately, Wally has a small flaw. He has become slightly human. So while compacting all the trash, he squirrels away small interesting knick-knacks like broken Barbie dolls and bulbs. In one particularly poignant moment, he finds a diamond ring placed in a small jewelry box. He promptly throws away the ring and preserves the more interesting box. He has also found a videotape of Hello Dolly, which he watches again and again on a small mobile phone screen, magnified by a lens. There is one thing, however, that he cannot understand that he sees on this tape, which is love. Only, that is, until, an automatic probe brings to earth a robot called Eve. Wally falls head over wheels in love with her, or should I say that he goes nuts over her? Now the problem is that Eve, or Eva, as Wally decides to call her, does not understand love, and her sole purpose is the programmed search for any living vegetation on earth. Thus begins a madcap love story which takes Wally out in far space to a space station where humans have evolved into fat, boneless blobs who cannot move on their own, as everything is done by robots. Beautiful animation and touching moments galore in this superbly crafted tale of the future. The cockroach pet of Wally's provides such heart warming as well as hilarious moments, that one almost waits with bated breath for the next moment. This is truly a film, which both adults and children can enjoy together, and carry home an ecologic message as well. As all the protagonists are robots, there is hardly any speech in the movie. However, the film is so superbly crafted that one doesn't feel the absence of speech. The squeaks and chirps of the audio box will do. Do see this love story of Wally and Eva and I am sure you will come chortling out of the theatre. Bravo Pixar Disney, we are waiting for more.
