Guest guest
Thanks Jan & Charlotte for this, the young man’s testimony was moving and eloquent. It is indeed excellent to put a “young, male” face to ME/CFS. This, in fact, was what turned the tide for those with Polio long ago is my understanding, even though it too was suffered by mostly women. But when their Association put out ads showing a MAN in the prime of youth felled by Polio, it really turned things around. There is such a long history, and not just for PWME, but women with all sorts of serious diseases, being dismissed as “hysterical” (or whatever the usual term at the time was). I call it “LMB Syndrome” (Loony Menopausal Bitch Syndrome)…the disease of misperception that the majority of doctors have LOL! I taught Medical Students for ten years, and although the registration has long been over 50% women, sexism still reigns supreme in medical school. The students were very grateful to receive at least a few hours’ teaching from a different viewpoint. Aylwin xox
