Go to the following link and download the Senate Hearings for May 7. You

will need RealPlayer to see it.

http://www.senate.state.tx.us/75r/Senate/AVarch.htm

Go to about 15 minutes into the video and you will see the passage of the

Senate Resolution declaring May 7th as Texas Autism Awareness Day and the

immediate passage of Senate Bill 427, which is the Senate Medical Insurance

Reform Bill. It was very exciting how quickly they passed the bill on the

Senate floor with only one vote against. The sister House Bill 2099 is

currently in the House Insurance Committee. They are hoping that it will

reach the House Floor later this week.

Please contact your state senators at http://www.senate.state.tx.us and

thank them for voting for Senate Bill 427 and contact your state

representatives at http://www.house.state.us to encourage them to pass House

Bill 2099.

Much thanks goes to Jeff Sell, our eeeemmmceeee at the Rally, a lawyer, and

most of all, a parent. He gave some great advice from a lawyer's and

parent's perspective. Thanks go to Dr. Luepitz who gave a great doctor's

perspective, and Suzzanne and Weis of the -Weis Children's

Center of Austin, for giving their teacher's perspective. And a great big

thank you goes to Ronnie Schleiss, who did a bang-up job consulting on the

Medical Bills. Most of all, thanks goes to my wonderful mother-in-law,

Annie Day, for being so supportive and helping with the Rally.

The final count of attendees at the Texas Rally was 120. Thanks to all who

attended the Rally from around the state. It was such a hot day and all of

the parents and kids did a wonderful job standing in the heat for the Rally.

We also got some great TV news coverage here in Austin. KTBC Channel 7 did

a spot on the Rally at about 5:15 p.m. If anyone wants a copy of the

coverage, give me a holler. If anyone here in Austin has a VHS to Digital

converter, let me know. I would love to put it on the website so everyone

in Texas can have access.

Wow, we can make a difference. It paid off, big time. Now we know that all

we have to do is show them our cute kids in person. Who could possibly

resist?

Happily,

Day

For those of you that, made it - thanks so much!

For those of you who could not attend, we missed you and hope that next year

will allow you to attend.

I believe there is a ground swell and we need to capitalize upon it - autism

is everywhere.

We need all the various autism factions in Texas to come together in each

locale and we need to support one another and speak with a unified voice.

We can make a difference - if we do not, no one else will.

Hats off to for pulling all of this together! Thanks - you did

a great job and I am sure I speak for everyone when I say we all appreciate

your hard work!

I am already looking forward to autism awareness day 2002!

Ronnie
