Guest guest
Hi , First, congratulations on your twins. I must quickly reply. I got more symptoms after starting Synthroid. Much like your indicate. I couldn't tolerate it or another T4 med called Levoxyl. In fact, I got significantly worse and worse to the point of not being able to walk on my own by taking T4 alone. The brain fog was atrocious. I didn't improve until I was put on a combo med of T4/T3 called Armour. What are your Free T4 and Free T3 levels? - They tell what the thyroid function is. TSH is regulated by the pituitary not the thyroid. Many traditional doctors think TSH is the Bible to thyroid treatment, but it's not. Got to run for now.. Hopefully, others will chime in too. Good luck to you, Bj > > Hello! I am new to this group. I am 30 and was just doagnosed with > Hashimoto's. Guest guest
I am wondering if maybe you've started at too much of a dose too quickly. When my dd started her medication a little more than a year ago her tsh was 108...she was started at a very low dose which was increased very slowly. I was told that was because she went without proper hormones for a very long time it was very important to start her very slowly on the medication as we would want to shock her body. Now she is very young 7, and was only 40lbs, she was started on 8.75mcg/2.25 t4/t3 and even that dose needed to be cut in half for a while as her heart was racing. Adjusting to the changes of finally haveing missing hormones did make my dd not always feel great but, i dont think feeling significantly worse every day should be happening. I'm sure you need much more medication to start than my dd did... but maybe the amount of medication is too high..too much of an adjustment for your body..too much too fast. I would suggest you call your doctor and ask this...ask if starting at a lower dose might help lesson your symptoms? cathy > > Hello! I am new to this group. Guest guest
Both replies to this offer good insight (thanks everyone). If you feel like your heart is racing, I would think, yes, you've started on too much hormone. But if you feel more tired... that does seem a little odd.. maybe like BJ said, yours is a case of the wrong kind of hormone (Synthroid vs. Armour). You do have a super high TSH.. I would also be curious to know the free T4 and free T3 labs. ~ > > > > Hello! I am new to this group. I am 30 and was just doagnosed with > > Hashimoto's. Guest guest
Thanks for your advice. I am new to all of this and trying to learn as I go. My doctor did not mention T3 and T4 levels, nor are they listed on my lab report. Is this a seperate lab test I need to ask for? Also, I called my doctor and asked my my extreme fatigue. He said that I need to give the Synthroid a little longer. I am wary of doing this though. I had NO symptoms prior to starting the Synthroid and on the Synthroid I have been extremely tired. Should I stick it out longer? Should I try to find a new doctor? > > > > > > Hello! I am new to this group. I am 30 and was just doagnosed with > > > Hashimoto's. Guest guest
, Glad things are working out for you. Have you had Free T3 testing done? There are many thyroid patients that do NOT convert the inactive T4 to the active T3. I am one that has conversion problems so I can't function long without T3. Taking a T4 med alone made me worse and worse to the point of having so much inflammation that I looked like a huge inflated balloon and became crippled. Once I started getting T3, being crippled reversed itself and the swelling lessened. For me finding the right med was as important as finding the right dosage. Bj > > > > > > > > Hello!
