Guest guest
I have a neck pillow. It's shaped like a U, and it fits around my neck. It keeps my neck warm, and it supports my neck (not stiff like a collar, but enough so my muscles don't have to work so hard). When I'm sick, I wear it all the time around the house - while eating, sleeping, sitting, just all the time! When I leave the house, I am sure to wear a scarf (even in warmer weather, because just *one* draft and I'm in spasm city. That's what I do. Kathleen's experience: The cold is my neck's worse enemy. It causes my neck muscles to go into spasm to the point I could scream. Something I've found helpful when I know I will be outside in the cold are the Therma Care Heat packs, or my TENS unit. I used to sit through fall sporting events, and between the two they saved my neck many evenings. Kathleen Diagnosed with CM/hydrocephalus 1990, decompression/shunt. Guest guest
Try wearing scarves. Either those knitted ones, or those granny kind (silk or polyester tied or wrapped around neck kind of like in the 1950s). If *any* and I mean ANY kind of draft hits my neck I'm destroyed. I will have pain aches and spasms for weeks or months to follow. You will never, ever find me without a scarf on or nearby. Even in the summer!! Because those air conditioners can do a number on me too if it hits my neck. Keep your neck warm or at least at a 'same' temperature most of the time. At home I wear U shaped pillow (all the time, eating, sleeping, sitting, etc) when I do get the spasms. This keeps neck warm and helps support it. I don't wear a collar when I get spasms, because that just makes my neck stiff and when the collar comes off, I'm in for a bad battle with weak/stiff neck and spasms.
