Guest guest
hi folks, i haven't been around for quite awhile. i had surgery in october, 2006, and it was pretty uneventful. i was doing fairly well - very few headaches and not much neck pain - until the 22nd of october (hm...almost exactly 1 year from my operation; i just noticed that) when i overdid it and experienced a severe headache with neck pain that lasted well into the next day. since then, i've had regular chiari- type headaches, and frequent neck pain, the neck pain esp. when it's cold outside and my muscles tense. wondering if anyone knows if this will improve and if you might have a suggestion for the neck pain that comes as a result of the cold. it is severe, and oftentimes leads to spasms. thanks, diane

Kathleen's experience: The cold is my neck's worse enemy. It causes my neck muscles to go into spasm to the point I could scream. Something I've found helpful when I know I will be outside in the cold are the Therma Care Heat packs, or my TENS unit. I used to sit through fall sporting events, and between the two they saved my neck many evenings. Kathleen Diagnosed with CM/hydrocephalus 1990, decompression/shunt.
