Guest guest
I need advice for someone with Graves. She has been on anti-thyroid medication for years...over 5 years...maybe ten. and the doc is encouraging RAI...because levels remain high...and there is a concern for liver damage with taking the PTU meds for such a long time. Her most recent 8/21/08 thyroid labs were: TSH <.004 Free T3 9.3 (2.3 - 4.2) Prior to that on 7/14/08: TSH <.004 Free T4 2.44 (.61 - 1.76) and Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglobulin was 279 (0-129%) and on 5/28/08 still the undetectable TSH and Free T4 3.78 (.61 - 1.76) Free T3 16.4 (2.3 - 4.2) The question here is basically....if the hyperthyroidism has not been brought under control after years....what can she do short of thyroid removal or RAI? Hyper for that long can not be good for her health... and...she recently found out she is pregnant. I believe she said she takes 9 pills...PTU - but i don't know dosage amount of pill..or much about anti-thyroid medication at all. Any advice/comments welcomed.
