Guest guest
Hi there. I think it's probably not a good idea. As I understand it, DMSO is indiscriminate. Mix some gasoline with it for example, and put it on the skin, the gas will go right into the bloodstream. Many was the time that I grabbed a bar of soap to wash gas or lighter fluid off my hands. Didn't matter if it was fancy high dollar soap, or Lava soap. I would use whatever was handy. You did right to ask before doing it. Very good thing, don't be ashamed for asking. Take care, SF > > This is just a theoretical question really to see what you think. > > Yesterday I made some soap - I'd been going to do it for years - the olive oil I bought had an expiry date in 2005 - shows you what a long time it took for me to get on with it. > > Anyway, I used some coconut oil and the olive oil, and added various essential oils in small quantity, a quantity of red sandalwood powder and, in the caustic soda mix before combining with the fats, I dropped a quantity of myrrh globules, wondering whether the caustic soda would dissolve them. It did partially, but the soap has a number of lumps of myrrh throughout. > > The thing I wondered about was this: if I had dissolved the myrrh in DMSO (which I may do just to make a tincture anyway), and if I had added that to the soap, would there have been any bad effect, such as the DMSO carrying anything the person was trying to wash OFF their hands INTO their skin? > > Any theories or practical experience? > > Rowena > > Who hadn't got as far as wondering what the DMSO might do to the AROMA of the soap. >
