Not sure this fits - more of a hero book of a young boy who just couldn't eat Tk Tk, his pet hen and had to deal with his fears of telling the grown ups in his life that he won't eat meat anymore. Then he finds out his teacher also doesn't eat meat, as well as her brother, the famous soccer player. It's a lovely story of a child learning to have strength in his own beliefs and not having to fear the world's reactions.

It's called A Boy, A Chicken, & the Lion of Judah, How Ari Became A Vegetarian, by a Kalechofsky. Published by Micah Publications, Inc., 255 Humphrey St., Marblehead, MA 1945 ISBN 9-916288-39-0

It's a localized book, has references to Israel and some Hebrew words, but the message is universal. In the back of the book are more addresses of vegetarian organizations that probably have more suggestions.

btw, re the discussions of vaccinations, alternative styles of parenting, etc., Mothering Magazine was a treasure of support for me while my kids were young. Loads of info, support, and realization that there are others who feel as strongly and are doing things to help change the world, one precious child at a time.sinvegan wrote:

does anyone know of a children's book (for young children) about being part of a vegetarian/vegan family?

,

The title of Reggie's book is " Benji Bean Sprout Doesn't Eat Meat " .

I will try to put a link below (it did not work the first time I sent

it through for this group since the link was too long so that message

was just deleted).

https://secure.vegsource.com/~farmsanc/item.cgi?

rm=edit_item & item_id=12683

My guess is that the question mark interferes with the link and

actually tells the page that it is the end of the link so you may

have to cut and paste the whole thing in an address window. Hope

this helps!
