Guest guest
I was given a tetracycline back in the late 1960's early 1970's for acne. I took it for a about 3 years. It helped the acne but I was found to have psuedotumor cerebri in 1989 after many years of headaches. I was also losing my vision due to the fact that I also developed hydrocephalus (it was not known at the time that I also had a chairi II. We need to really research the drugs that doctors want to prescribe to us. I also had been prescribe DHE for headaches. I would inject myself with DHE for over a year. It did not help the headaches but I have developed Raynauds. It is a side effect from the DHE. Just my 2 cents worth. Debi Posted by: " chrysanthemumsr4me " chrysanthemumsr4me@... chrysanthemumsr4me Sat May 10, 2008 4:33 pm (PDT) Just thought I should pass along this info to fellow Chiarians. Our son, who has Chiari, was placed on Minocycline for acne. He began to have increased headaches when he was placed on this medication. Because his acne improved, the physician decided to double the dose of the Minocycline. We were told there was no relationship between the headaches and the medication. From that point of the dosage increase, our son spiraled downward neurologically. His symptoms consisted of continuous moderate headache, balance problems, major confusion, possible seizure activity (petit mal), and nausea with dry heaves. His confusion became quite significant. He told us that he felt like he " was in a dream and could not get out " . He also said he felt like he " was going in and out of anesthesia " . Then he began to walk like a drunk. His neurologist could not see him, so he was seen by the pediatrician who diagnosed him with pseudotumor cerebri. We were told by the pediatrician that Chiarians should not be placed on Tetracycline medications. Minocycline is in the Tetracycline family. One of the side effects of this medication is pseudotumor Cerebri which consists of increased intracranial pressure. Once the medication was stopped, our son began to improve. I would suspect that any medication which has pseudotumor cerebri as a side effect should be avoided by Chiarians. The pediatrician also told us that extra supplementation of vitamin A can also produce pseudotumor Cerebri in Chiarians. ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Guest guest
Does anyone have experience with the potent drug Accutane used for severe acne? It is Vitamin A based and now I wonder if it increases intercranial pressure also. Many years ago, I was on it for a short while and I had a very bad reaction to it. Confusion, foggy head, dizziness, fainting, severe headaches etc. I stopped taking it and after a few weeks, started to feel better. The dermatologist was very adamant that I was not " sick " because of the Accutane but I knew better. My daughter is the one with TCS, and Chiari problems but I am beginning to think that I may have compression issues as well though not as life altering. I also hear a lot of swooshing in my ears lately. Theresa --------------------------------- Be smarter than spam. See how smart SpamGuard is at giving junk email the boot with the All-new Yahoo!
