Guest guest
If they are in Tarrant County, I'd recommend they contact the MHMR folks to get a service coordinator that could help with recommendations and funding. Also applying for a grant through their In-Home & Family Support Department could help. If they are in Dallas County, I understand it's a bit harder to get assistance through the MHMR but not impossible. If she quit her job to care for her child, perhaps homeschooling would be a good option. That way she could tailor lessons to his unique needs. The DFW area has some really good homeschooling groups that could help her get started as well as offer classes and social opportunities. There are some good online lists for homeschooling in DFW and for autistic kids in general. If she wants more info, she can contact me privately. Also, NACD has a branch in Arlington that's especially good at creating home programs that blend therapy and schooling. http://www.nacd.org/ I'd also suggest that she consider joining the DANISH group in Dallas that's geared towards families of children with Asperger Syndrome and High-Functioning Autism. They offer some good info on AS as well as some good contacts. Their website also has some good links. Click here: DANISH Home Page Gaylen
