I also had severe constipations much worse than before surgery in the days immediate after surgery (despite Colace and Senokot). In the end the nurse therapist gave me a different lemony concoction which did the trick. I would definitely contact the ward and ask about it. Unfortunately my bowel problems remain significantly more difficult than before operation. It may be that this is due to bowel adhesions from previous shunt placement surgeries.
