Hi ,

... a bit under time pressure, just a very quick reply.

Here is a definition is Dorland's for galenicals: " ..(medicines prepared

according to the formulas of Galen;) the term is now used to denote standard

preparations containing one or several organic ingredients, as contrasted

with pure chemical substances. "

I would like to add that the term is today used to denote anything

pertaining to the formulation of drugs, even though this may not always be

quite correct.

Hence:

Galenic formulations = ~ pharmaceutical formulations

Galenic tests = ~ pharmaceutical tests (e.g. dissolution tests)

NOT: pharmacological (this would also include pharmacokinetics and

pharmacodynamics)

Galenic scale = scale used during the development of the formulation (note:

scale does not mean stage!)

Best regards

Astrid

Dear Colleagues,

In a description of tests performed in the development process of a

synthetic drug, I found expressions like

Preparation of tablets (galenic scale).

Galenic formulations.

Galenic tests.

In Russian usage, galenic is applicable to medications prepared from plants

or biological raw materials, which does not apply to this drug dossier.

What could " galenic " mean in this context?

I assume that galenic tests are pharmacological tests, as opposed to

physicochemical tests.

Then what is " galenic scale " ?
