Hi all,

I haven't posted in the longest time because my life has just been nuts, but I'm

taking time

today to read all the posts that I've been saving for the last month! I have a

couple of

weird things going on that I wanted to see if anyone else knows about.

Background is that

I had decompression on June 27, 2007 (almost my anniversary!) and started

working again

in late August. Doing fairly well overall with the usual muscle spasms, some

pain, fatigue,

and not just quite the energy level I used to have.

One weird thing going on is that carbonation tastes totally flat now. That

happened last

year when I was taking Topamax, and I know it can be a side effect of the

medicine. I

haven't taken Topamax in over 10 months. When I quit taking it, soft drinks

tasted normal

again. Then about three months ago, it started again where soft drinks taste

flat and too

sweet.

Any ideas on that one?

The other thing I had before my surgery was having times where I smelled

cigarette

smoke when there was absolutely none around. That stopped after surgery. Now it

started

again about three weeks ago. It happens in my house and in my van--- both are

places

no one has ever smoked. A couple of nights ago, it was so bad that it actually

made my

eyes burn like there was smoke in my eyes. It is so incredibly strange. My very

reassuring,

wonderful daughter says not to worry, it is just because I am crazy! (She is

kidding.... she

doesn't really think that).

So any ideas on that one?

Hope everyone is having a good Saturday and a pain-free day!

Thanks for listening to my weirdness!

Hi Maggie / All,

I don't think you're weird. I have that too, where I can smell smoke when

there's absolutely none there (no-one's ever smoked in my house) been happening

a

good 6 months now, on and off. Never bothered mentioning it to my GP because

I'm sure they think I'm 'Loo-lar' anyway with the multitude of other symptoms

that I've reported over the years! Then, when there's a scent in the air

that I should be able to smell, I can't smell it! For a couple of years before

all this started I noticed my nose was 'drying up'. Had you noticed that ?
