Here's my concern, and the reason I only go into the hospital when I get a call from a mom there:  If they get used to you volunteering, they will want you to continue volunteering.  When I go in as PP, they all gather 'round and ask questions of me as a fellow professional.

I got my 10 yrs recertification las summer, and I want to find a LC position in the local hospital were now do not have any openings, and wondering if be a volunter will help in the future, besides will keep me practicing, any one was in a similar position. I will appreciate your input, Thank you

Both of the hospitals I have worked in have pretty clear rules about volunteers

not providing any sort of clinical support. Now I did get one hospital to bend

that rule to allow volunteer/trainee doulas but that is because we emphatically

stated that they were only providing emotional support and educating the family

about how to support the mother.

On the other hand if you wanted to volunteer to offer a class or something like

that I could see it being a good way to get to know people and for them to know

you as a professional.
