yes, I have. she may have a yucky type of mastitis that I can't remember the name of. but I know part of it is "granular" I've only seen it once thank goodness. I would try to get her to go to a breast specialist.... if there is one in your area. sounds awful. At least for me ptp. Mom is 37 wks pregnant and has engorged breast with clogged duct

doctors want her to start pumping so she pumped for the first time for 20 min and got what she has described as straight blood about .5 ounce. I have not seen mom yet I am just going off what she is telling me. She's wondering how often to pump. She reports her breast has been swollen and sore for months. She had a consult with a surgeon and they made a point to say she needed to get this resolved before delivery or she wouldn't be able to breastfeed. This is mom's first child. Has anyone seen or heard of this? What would you recommend.

the mastitis that my client had was really nasty. it had to be drained and she had to stop lactating even on the unaffected side for it to finally heal.. granular something. I'll google it. I forgot to mention they did say she had mastitis and she has been on several antibiotics but they did not help at all. So far they have not mentioned it being an abscess.

I've only seen this once.

Mom had had 2 bouts of antibiotics, due to early mastitis, while she was still pregnant. It didn't clear up until after she delivered. The IV antibiotics finally cleared it up..

She was pumping thick, bloody, pus.

Has the drainage been cultured?

I've seen 2 patients with these symptoms.

1 patient had Strep A and gave birth prematurely. This particular patient had

consulted a RN help line for her insurance company who told her it must be that

her '...milk is coming in prematurely'....she had a huge blood filled abscess.

Please get someone to culture this.

It sounds like this is not bilateral, should not necessarily interfere with the

function of her other breast but they need to figure out what is the cause.
