Guest guest
Hello! Just wanted to touch base and let you all know that I am 1 wk, 5 days post op and am doing remarkably well! Dr. Rosner (NC) did my posterior fossa decompression (aka Chiari decompression) on 6/23. Actually it was a re-do as I was not adequately decompressed the first time that I had it done here locally (FL) back in 2002. By that Tuesday evening, I was up and walking around with the physical therapist and felt wonderful. I woke up with my head, neck and shoulders feeling considerably clearer and lighter than they have ever felt (and it wasn't just the pain meds. Lol). I was released from the hospital that Friday, 7/27 and we stayed 'in town' for a 1 week post op appt. the following Monday. The only pain med that I left the hospital with was Percocet and, that is phenomenally, all I needed for pain. I didn't even need to take it as recommended either. I was also given a script for prednisone (for swelling) and phenergan (for nausea). I really didn't need all that much phenergan! The prednisone and Percocet are normally meds that, in the past, had given me considerable grief (side affects) but, Dr. Rosner had told me that more often than not, he has found that patients tend to be able to handle meds that they weren't previously able to. I was a bit dubious about this (given my past reactions to these 2 meds) but ... he was right. I haven't had a single problem with any of the meds. It still is kind of a shocker to me but, I am ecstatic that the Percocet takes good care of the pain as it sure beats hydrochodone. ~Moral of this story - if you had previous problems with pain meds (I'm not talking about severe allergies etc.). Give them a try post op. You may just very well be pleasantly surprised. The day after I was released, my husband and I went out and about to do some site seeing and went to Chimney Rock in Asheville (?) and some of the mountainous waterfalls. Absolute must sees before or after surgery. Improvements I've seen so far: Balance is much better, my swallowing problems .... GONE! My glitchy breathing problems ....GONE! My leg and general joint pain .... GONE!(this is a biggy for me as I was in constant pain before surgery in my neck, head, shoulders and legs. I'm still in shock that I haven't had any leg pain and am so afraid that I'm going to wake up from this dream. Bladder issues .... rather diminished when I think about how bad it was just 2 weeks ago. Something woke me up from one of my short naps in the hospital. For the life of me, I couldn't place what the sound was that I was hearing. When I asked my husband what that annoying sound was, he smiled and told me that it was the clock ticking. My hearing had NEVER been so good to even hear a clock ticking. I can hear tone ranges and noises/sounds that I've never been able to hear. Kinda neat! :-) I can not recommend Dr. Rosner enough. I have NO idea how he does things differently than other neurosurgeons but, I am proof that he has an excellent thing going and really knows his stuff; both medically and surgically. Between 2002 and 2005, I had upwards of 15 neurosurgeries and I have never had such relief and immediately visible fantastic healing as I have had with Dr. Rosner.
