Guest guest
Ummmm....I would definitely get a new doctor. Spleen removal is not normal protocol for hepatitis C. Are you seeing a regular doctor or a specialist, such as a gastroenterologist or a hepatologist? Most regular doctors know very little about hepatitis C. My white blood cell count is now down to 2.6 after 8 weeks of treatment, but the hep C experts I see say this is within acceptable range during treatment. They say that's very normal for the first month of treatment. After that, they say the levels kind of bounce around until treatment is over. They're keeping a close watch on me, though. The first month I went in for labs ever week, and now it's every two weeks. I just had more blood work done on Thurs and found out that my platelets are starting to come back up. I don't see the Doc until April 3rd, which seems so far out to me. Is this normal procedure, or am I just being given the run around? I have Hep C - genotype 2 with Cirrhosis stage 3. I am hoping that someone can give me some advice here, because all I seem to get through the doc's office is the runaround. I was told if my platelets had started to come up this week, the doc was going to see me and start looking for some clinical trials that I may be able to get into or possibly do a platelet transfusion and take out my spleen. I was just wondering what was normal and what was not. Please help. Guest guest
Colleen I am seeing a gastroenterologist. I am glad that your white count is staying within range, my dropped way below after reducing my shot for two weeks. I hope you kick that virus in the butt, which was my goal. I really like the doc's assistant, which is who I saw throughout my treatment, but the gastro seems to travel to London quiet often and it takes forever to get in to see him. I am going to call Monday and get an appointment with a new gastro and see what he thinks. Thanks Sharon MsTigerHawk wrote: Ummmm....I would definitely get a new doctor.
