Guest guest
There are anti-fungal properties in the milk. Even so, yeast *can* be cultured from breastmilk, so we know yeast can grow in milk. However, yeast seems to be an opportunist that can really only take hold when the immune system is functioning at less than optimum levels. It is now generally thought that once the baby has healed and doesn't have thrush anymore, that his immune system should be functioning better and the frozen milk should be no problem. I do still tell mothers to mark the bottles that were pumped during a yeast outbreak, and then watch the baby when these bottles are given. If he would develop thrush again, then she should throw away the rest of the milk that was pumped during the outbreak. But this rarely seems to happen if we have fixed suck so that he isn't constantly abrading his tongue and mother's nipples (like sandpaper against each other), or let his gut heal by removing an offending allergen from mother's diet (if baby was exhibiting allergy symptoms). Then causing another bout of yeast to fight? Some of the resources I have seen really conflict one way or the other. Thanks! Guest guest
I thought the milk could be pasteurized. It's not in front of me, but I seem to recall it was in Breastfeeding: A Guide for the Medical Profession. Here is a link to different ways of doing it: http://www.milkmatters.org/needmilk/pasteurisation Nadja Catano > > Do you ladies know if a mama pumped milk while fighting yeast, froze the > milk and defrosted and fed it to the babe if the yeast would still be > present?
