Robin,

My first suggestion would be to make sure that mom is drinking plenty of water.

When reading " Mother Food " by son, she wrote about making sure that

mom has plenty of Essential Fatty Acids (EFA), but not trans fats. She may

consider adding Evening of Primrose Oil, 3,000 mg/day.

lecithin (capsules) 4 times a day. She had the same issue with her first child,

but the lecithin seemed to help. She doesn't report an oversupply. Any ideas

to stop them from reoccuring?

I can’ recall ever fiddling with a

bag of marbles. So I am guessing what you mean.

Do you mean massaging breasts in circular

movements with palm of hand?

Ellen Simpson

massage

and move her breast around in her hand as if it were a " bag of

marbles " She had her do this something like five times a day.

Apparently the client never had another episode.

I just tried to find a written description online and did't turn anything up, but the idea is to kind of "knead" the breast if that makes sense. I am sure that what you are describing would work as well. Anybody else have a better description of this technique?

I once had a client with one very stubborn plugged duct which was more like a

lump for a long time.

She tried everything

What finally worked for this mom was daily localized ultrasound treatments(along

with everything else we were doing) from a PT for about 2 months. The lump

finally resolved slowly over those 2 months.

I think that was more of an extreme case though. All plugged ducts since then

seem easier to deal with after working with that case : )

My favorite plugged duct remedies in addition to breastfeeding and milk removal:

short cold shower followed by long, very warm epsom salt baths or breast baths +

Massage

loose unrestrictive nursing tanks (as opposed to restrictive bras)

Yoga (uses the bodies own muscles to massage the lymph around the breasts)

Increasing the % of raw vegetables in the diet to alkalinize

>

> Oh, also... have her change her bras, may be tighter than with last baby and

she isn't realizing it. (esp if still wearing bras from last pg).

Hi ladies,

Just wanted to say thank you for all of your wonderful advice for the recurrent

plugged ducts! Castor oil compressed and a higher dose of lecithin seemed to

help. She will try ultrasound next, as well as look into a diet with less

inflammatory foods:)

Warmly,

Robin
