connection between parents and religion

A lurker emerges from the shadows!

It occurs to me there may be a definite connection between one's

relationship with one's parents and one's relationship with religion. I.e.

That:

1] one's perception of " God " may reflect one's perception of one's parents.

2] that the way in which way views organised religion (i.e. Judaism or

Catholicism) (vis-a-vis spirituality) may reflect one's relationship with

one's parents (particularly one's childhood relationship)(vis-a-vis

upbringing)

I have tried to keep a very complex question very simple!

Anyone have comments on this very basic idea?? Can anyone direct me to some

reading?
