So I heartily second 's appreciation. Ditto. Yahoo is pretty poor stuff, but is better than others I have tried with my group (Domeus, SmartGroups, ...). It is interesting that apparently similar Yahoo groups - e.g. this one, patent translators, the one I moderate - display posts differently on the same computer (this one) and the same email client (this one). This applies first and foremost to quoted posts, where spaces between the quoted bits and new texts vary widely between groups; ditto the marginal mark showing the quoted text. Guest guest
, those of us who moderate Yahoogroups ourseleves (much smaller ones than this one) know how much puzzlement and frustration is involved behind the scenes. So I heartily second 's appreciation. It's very important that anyone who doesn't understand why their e-mails appear to be treated in a discriminatory way understands that there are problems in the way Yahoogroups works that have nothing to do with the moderator. If your message doesn't turn up e-mail your group's moderator direct (and just hope that your moderator's ISP hasn't just followed Yahoogroups in identifying your ISP as a source of spam). If you can't get through to the moderator try sending a message indirectly via a third party whose e-mails don't seem to experience problems. And as if we do get a load of spam that's the price we have to pay for the experiment. If there's too much spam then the solution isn't viable, but it's certainly worth trying in order to see if life can be made easier for anyone who's currently being excluded. I wish I knew a better alternative to Yahoo, but lists I belong to though Google Groups have their own problems. Burns
Guest guest
Dear , First of all, my very best wishes for 2008! Being a site administrator is indeed a thankless task (I know from what my husband tells me of the forum he administrates.) Some people do not understand that one is not 24 hours per day in front of the screen! It seems there are bugs in the Yahoo groups system that are unlikely to be ironed out easily. Personally, I have never had any problem with my own messages getting through, but perhaps that is because I have a Yahoo email address. I don't know. Anyway, I am sure you are doing the best you can, when you can. So thanks to you for your time and effort! I would also like to inform the members who occasionally post questions on Proz that I have now left the site definitively. Best regards Sue
