Guest guest
Alice had a letter published today in the Berkshire Eagle which emboldened her to send the following to Newsweek. She has asked me to post here. ***************************************************** It seems as if there can be no political solution to the everlasting mid-East crisis and there may be a good reason. The problem is essentially a religious one begging for some spiritual insight. There should be a summit of rabbis, imams, and priests! They might remember that Arabs and Jews both descend from the eponymous Shem, son of Noah, respectively through Ishmael and Isaac, sons of Abraham( Genesis 14-21) and are both Semitic people, though many Muslims are not Arabs. Since Christians follow the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, a Jew, the three great religions worship the same God under different names. This could be the reconciling factor, thus Jerusalem, first named Salem [peace], might become a City of God for the world. What if Sharon had asked to come in peace to worship at the Temple on the Mount instead of marching in to prove a political point! While this suggestion may seem unrealistic, at first, I hope someone will consider it. Hate begets hate, begets destruction and loss of life. The mystical traditions of all three of these religions are in agreement: There is truly only One Way and that is within the heart of each of us. Maybe, for a change, we could try tolerance, compassion and common sense. Alice O. Howell Rosecroft 72 Beartown Mt. Road Monterey, MA 01245 USA Tel: Fax: " Look for the sacred in the commonplace!
