Dear Krystyna,

I took herbal kit for travelling in Himalayas two years ago and it was to

designed to cover everything from diarrhoea to insect bites. It was very simple

(limits to the luggage size)but proved to be amazingly effective not only on us

but on many other members of the expedition. The main tincture was Caledula 90,

Chamomile and Thyme - this worked wonders on the diarrhoea/stomach front,

especially if combined with medicinal charcoal to absorbed any toxins. It also

doubled as antiseptic, adjunt to chest infection (together with freshly made

onion syrup), soothing lotion for sun burn and insect bites. Apart from that I

had Arnica cream for bruises and Hammamelis cream for haemorrhoides (v. common

when walking on high altitude). I found these 3 items absolutely sufficient but

then I always travel light. Good luck in your compilation. Cheers Newton

I always use St 's Wort oil (strong!- red, not pink) instead of arnica

cream, it can be made easily, or purchased from our own small producers and

unlike arnica can be used on broken skin, is very effective and wonderful

for aching muscles.

Also I've heard good reports of yarrow essential oil as a mossie repellent

but haven't tried it yet

" Me too " on the slippery elm.

Aloe vera for sun burn and strengthening the skin, (but this is often

available at holiday destinations either in shops or growing.)

best anti - bite remedy I've come across is to take vitamin B complex in the

early afternoon every day you're away - makes your blood smell different and

the bugs just aren't interested!
