slimy sprouts?

Howdy folks!

My first time sprouting wheat - I was hoping to make bulgur, and from

that to make kishk.

I am at the end of my second day of the 2-3 days recommended in " the

book " for sprouting wheat. I have most of the wheat doing nothing,

although some have a white slimy tail sticking out of them. The tail

is easy to squish; doesn't hold together like I suppose a sprout

should. These are not at all like bean sprouts or alfalfa sprouts or

anything else I have ever sprouted.

The wheat smells good, and it has not been too wet - if anything it

has been too dry. I let it soak overnight first, then dumped the

water off. It has been sitting in my colander because I don't have

enough sprout jars with the screen lids. I rinsed it twice a day.

The top seemed quite dry, and I thought I wasn't rinsing often enough

or else it was drying out too fast because it was in the colander

rather than inside jars.

I can't tell if the white tails are the beginnings of sprouts or the

beginning of mold!!!!

Do wheat sprouts look like this, or have I done something wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Deborah
