Guest guest
Hi, . I am indeed a different person than Chief Little Eagle. I go by Bobby, though my email is my NDN name. (Get it, IN-DEE-AN?)hehe. I am part Jicarilla Apache on Mom's side and Navajo on dad's. Throw in a dash of colonial Spanish from down around Ranchos de Taos, in the 1760's and you got my lineage. I speak Jicarilla some, and it is very similar to Navajo, with a lot of the animal names being identical, but it is less similar to other Apache languages such as Chiracahua, White mountain, and Mescalero. In the early 90's, I learned native bow and arrow making, as well as flint knapping, and hide tanning, fire by friction, beadworking, and participated in powow dance, and taught the decendants of famouse Ute warchief Colorow the art of bow and arrow making. My blood brother, a northern Cheyenne gave me the name Walking Eagle after my wife and I followed an American Bald Eagle on the road to the place where we camped for 7 years on his private ranch. It had eaten too large a meal, and could not become airborne, and stayed on the road because the grass had grown that year to a hight of 6 feet. This was in the vicinity of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Here is a link to a story written by my daughter. http://billybobswildride.blogspot.com/2008/01/kellys-paper.html It is kind of nice. Love, Walkingeagle. aka Bobby Confused about Eagles Are Chief Little Eagle and Rob Walking Eagle two different people? I never thought so until tonight. Just call me confused. I *think* Bob uses two different emails & so I thought that it was the same person. in WNC
Guest guest
, Walking Eagle and I are not the same person. I am from North Florida/South Alabama. I am Seminole/Creek Indian with a splash of Portugese. Rumor has it that I have a dab of Chochtaw but I don't believe everything I hear. I am however a decendant of Chief Oceola. The Portugese tend to have thick eyebrows. I have one big thick eyebrow. Daddy used to tease me and say " Boy, You came from the " hairy-eyed " tribe " ... LOL As kids we played cowboys and indians...guess who was always the indian????? (Chuckles) Take care CLE Subject: Re: Confused about Eagles To: livercirrhosissupport Date: Sunday, July 20, 2008, 3:59 AM Hi, . I am indeed a different person than Chief Little Eagle. Guest guest
Walking Eagle, You may find this interesting? The town I live in NW Fl. has a old Civil War fort. It is called Ft. Pickens. Before hurricane Ivan it was open to the public. Since the hurricane the long road down the island to the fort has not been rebuilt. One can still get their via ferry from the mainland. I don't go anymore because the cost of the ferry is high, I haven't felt well, and throughout the years I have been in/around/through every nook and cranny of the fort at least a couple hundred times. All through middle school and high school we hanged out their virtually every weekend. We used to collect arrow heads by the bags as they were so easy to find. Anyway, In the middle of the fort they have a brick prison. One cell has been set aside and noted. It's where Geronimo I think was housed until he released his spirit. If I am not mistaken pnuemonia got the best of him. I have some pics of fort Pickens. If I find someone with a scanner and knows how to e-mail Pics I'll send you a few. It is very interesting. Take care friend Subject: Re: Confused about Eagles To: livercirrhosissupport Date: Sunday, July 20, 2008, 3:59 AM Hi, . I am indeed a different person than Chief Little Eagle. Guest guest
Chief, thats really interesting. I knew that the Chiracahua indians were relocated to Florida after the last surrender of Geronimo and his gang, so this is consistant with that. I read his auto biography, though and he was released from prison when he was an old man. check out this link. It states that he was sent to Ft Pickens like you said. Very interesting. Guest guest
Yea, he died of pneumonia at Ft. Sill, OK. A couple of internet sites say that the cell he was held in crumbled like a brownie many years ago and now is ruins. I personally toured his cell about 10 years ago. They at one time had his bow and arrows on display at the little wood framed museum they have at Ft. Pickens. My 11 year old nephew has got alot of Apache in him from his father. He has the temper...:-) LOL! He is a great kid. Here ya go Walking Eagle....
