Welcome to all the new members. This is a group of people who have or love

someone or have lost someone who has/had end stage liver disease, often called

" cirrhosis of the liver " . Cirrhosis is the final or end stage of liver disease.

There are many types of liver disease.

Cirrhosis is a degenerative liver disease in which the lobes of the liver become

infiltrated with fat and fibrous tissue (fibrous tissue is a type of connective

tissue composed of protein fibers called collogen). The word " cir rhosis " is

derived from the Greek words kirrhos, meaning " yellowish orange " and osis,

meaning " condition, " and connotates the appearance of the liver of a patient

with cirrhosis. It use to be that the diagnosis meant a death sentence, but that

is no longer the case. Though there are no treatments for cirrhosis itself,

there are many ways to manage the disease and finally, liver transplantation can

greatly prolong a person's life. It is important to note that we here are not

doctors, and cannot give medical advice. We do love each other much and are

willing to share our hopes strengths and experiences to the benefit of others.

On behalf of the people in this group, I welcome you and encourage you to

introduce your self as soon as

you are ready. don't forget to visit out photo album, and posts some your self,

if you feel inclined. Feel free to ask questions, there is a lot of wisdom and

knowlege here. Thanks, Bobby Aragon, moderator, LCS Yahoo.
