O/T Embarrassing Question - but really need to know the answer

Ok, I am really sorry to have to ask this question but I am too embarrassed to ask my GP or the surgeon and perhaps you guys might know. I have my surgery date but have realised that it is when my period is due. Can I have the surgery even if I have my period? Is there some pill I can take to stop me having my period just for that month? Thanks for your help, One very embarrassed _O
