Guest guest
I am new to this peak flow meter that my doctor gave me. All she said is to come pick up the peak flow meter. But she told me nothing about it. What level should it be when i blow into it. When I was having attacks I blew a 150, and this week I blew 450. But my husband blows 600 (he does not have asthma) So can anyone tell me what is normal? THANKS ANNA
Guest guest
On my good days I blow 450 to 500 on my meter. When I get down to 300 I am in trouble and use my nebulizer. It would be a 911 call if I got anywhere close to 150 and the medics take me to the emergency room.
Guest guest
Hi , Don't try to work out your " normal " peak flow from other peoples'. There are many things that will alter it eg. your height , whether you are male or female etc... Each person has an individual peak flow. Your doctor should base this on your height and sex etc.. this will give an " average " . The most important thing though is what your peak flow reads when you are feeling very well. The reading that you give constantly when you are well will be your " best reading " . You will need to work from this. Peak flows work on a % basis. My " best " is 450. I seek emergency hospital care at 150. At 250-150 I adjust my medication levels. Therefore anything 50% of your best or below needs medical attention.
