Good morning,~~~~

I hope you are well, and that you slept well,

and that all goes well with you; and that your well is deep.

And that your Will is strong and your Soul is free to keep.

Durning this morning's contemplation I began to realize that

my life has been one long struggle to unify my desires until

my will becomes unbreakable, for a will that is unbreakable

is our bridge from separteness into the unitive state.

Once this bridge is crossed, the Mystics say, the individual

will is lost in the Divine Will.

In every human being this chasm in consciousness is present.

It shows itself in vacillation, in a divided will and the multiplicity

of desires, in the inability to maintain concentration on a problem

or loyalty in a relationship. Everywhere there is conflict; between two

desires, between two people, between a hope and a contrary fear,

but always at the bottom between two warring parts of our own mind.

I can talk about this division in consciousness in all sorts of ways.

If you like a horizontal picture, it is a tug-of-war between the selfless

in us and the selfish.

Again, we can call it a struggle between two selves; a higher, ( Inner )

permanent Self and a lower, impermanent ego. In terms of physics,

it is a war between light & darkness; if you perfer metaphysics, it is

wisdom versus ignorance.

Whatever the language, unifying this split is a battle. Without

exaggeration,

the human personality can be called 'Armageddon,' a field where the

battle rages for years and years, through many lifetimes.

If we find this battle difficult, it is good to remember that through most

of our

evolution this struggle has faltered and almost abandoned. Only toward the

end of this great conflict do we begin to come back.

Here we are coming slowly to what traditional religious language calls

Grace.

I have no quarrel whatsoever with this word, but it can be misleading when

confused with some external power. Grace is real, but it is not outside us.

It can be described as a tremendous force in the depths of consciousness

which, when we are " Ready' for it, begins to reshape our lives.
