Guest guest
Squaw vine: It seems a shame to part with a name which both describes the herb and its action. We have no choice, but to give it up for 'partridge berry'? I would rather stick with a. Or maybe herbalists should initiate new 'common names'. There must be a culturally sensitive word for Amerindian woman. Advertising focus groups change the names of herbs with surely much less 'right'. Agnus castus for chasteberry and starflower for borage. Botanists do it all the time. Both for cultural reasons and for scientific ones. Lycium chinensis for Lycium barbarum, Centella for Hydrocotyle, Berberis aquifolium for Mahonia etc. Another contender for the Herba repens puzzle. What about Herba recens. Fresh herb?
