Guest guest
I felt pretty good for two days, and this morning woke up so tight and wheezy I had to do two nebulizer tx immediately. I thought I was improving because the rifampin and vanco were finally doing their jobs, but probably the tightness is due to the prednisone taper. Well, my question I'm posing here is whether others notice problems with swallowing air. I've had two surgeries (lap-Nissen and a yr later an open re-do) and both have failed. I still have severe GERD. While coughing, eating, drinking, etc, I inadvertently swallow huge quantities of air and I think the problem is worse because of the GERD and past surgeries. I rarely burp and the trapped air becomes quite uncomfortable. My GI doc has me swallow a tube (it's really not that difficult) to release the air, and provides immediate, albeit temporary relief. I also take OTC simethicone but not sure if it's of any benefit at all. I know some of the worst offenders: popcorn, cookies... all munchies- and of course the usual 'gassy' foods. But this also includes good stuff, like salads, apples. So I really don't avoid all these things. Even drinking cold tap water has become a problem. With all the steroids, weight is not a problem. Though I've put on 5 or 10 lbs after 6 weeks of IV & high dose prednisone, I feel like it's 50 lbs. I always feel full because I'm full of air. Any suggestions?
