Guest guest
Something Stinks: School Closed Due to Foul Smell Nov 21, 2006 09:03 PM EST WTEN - Albany,NY http://www.wten.com/Global/story.asp?S=5711236 & nav=0Rdv Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School was closed once again Tuesday, but crews now think they are close to fixing the problem that left the building smelling foul. They have doused the infected crawlspace with a chlorine-based disinfectant, and it seems to be killing the odor off. The area is full of standing water that has developed a growth of yeast, mold, and fungi - and that created the awful smell that made 11 people sick, and forced an evacuation of the building last Thursday. Crews have now determined that the smell is just unpleasant, but not toxic. The facilities crew says the disinfectant is working quickly though. " Just a noticeable difference in several hours from the smell we had and the odors, to where you could actually see it working right in front of your eyes, " says RCS Facilities Director Roy Deyo. Tuesday, middle school students at RCS had the day off, so that district high school students could have class in the building. Deyo says the high school may reopen as early as Wednesday.
