Guest guest
I've just spent a long time today trying to get to the bottom of the Butterbur issue, so I thought I'd let you all know the outcome! Basically, both Linpharma (the company that keeps sending the literature) and bioforce developed the process to remove the pyrolizidine alkaloids from Butterbur. They have jointly patented the process, so noone else can do it! I called bioforce and found out that petasan was produced by Bioforce Switzerland and the herbs for the tincture were harvested in Switzerland. Petasan was a mix of Viscum and Butterbur and the Viscum they were using was wild crafted. They have stopped producing Petasan because they were finding it more and more difficult to find good quality viscum in the wild. Petasan seems to have been the only source of PA free butterbur tincture on the market and the only other way to buy it (unless you make your own including PAs) is in capsule form from either linpharma or bioforce. I think I'm going to resort to capsules of butterbur and tincture of viscum for my patient... Thanks all for your help! Schia Schia MNIMH Highbury, London schia.mitchell@...
