Guest guest
Hi Mazz, Have a look at message 6800. I've come up with a bit of a different idea. Can you add that to your list of ideas? Guest guest
Okie Dokie - no probs, my feathers aren't ruffled. Hope the group can gather a few good ideas, at least whatever we don't use in December can help alleviate another month when we are looking for something new. We might even end up with enough ideas to keep us in lunch venues until this time next year ...... Hugs Cherie > > > > > > > > > > On Sunday for those who didn't attend we discussed the Christmas > > > > Lunch. > > > > > What we decided was that everyone would send in their ideas and > > I > > > > would > > > > > gather them together and then put a poll on the yahoo site where > > > > > everyone can go and vote. Guest guest
Hi Cherie and all, I agree with you 100% in all your points raised. Also the fact that many interstaters who now like to attend these socials need plenty of time to book cheap airflights and arrange time off work. It’s all very good natured and fair to include every member in a group decision but in reality it is not practical. The members numbers are growing so rapidly it would be much simpler for the moderators to represent the group in the decision making process for socials, especially the Christmas social. In my opinion to take a poll for a suitable date for everyone and a poll for a suitable restaurant for everyone is an unnecessary task and a huge time waster for everyone whether it be the person conducting the poll or members voting and sending their opinions in. As far as a date is concerned just draw one out of a hat, that’s a fair way of dong it and should avoid any complaints. Please note that this would not stop any member wanting to organise a Sydband social themselves from doing so. I spoke to Ghyll on the weekend about the need for there to be a moderators meeting at least once a year, if not twice a year so we can all be drumming the same beat so to speak. I have spoken to another moderator on this site who did not even know that certain people were even moderators hence the need for there to be a Moderators Meeting. I understand that Cath and Bev maybe attending the June meeting and if this is the case it would be a suitable time to have a Moderators Meeting either meeting one hour early for lunch or one hour after lunch whether it be late afternoon or evening. If all the moderators (whoever you may be lol) agree on this I would fly down to Sydney purposely to attend this meeting as I had previously advised Ghyll I would. I realise Ghyll’s sister will be in attendance but I cannot see a problem with her attending the Moderators Meeting. I would be happy to co-ordinate Agenda Items for the meeting. On Ozband for the Brisbane meetings the moderators do the footwork in locating a suitable venue in fairness to where everyone is located and simply post a message on the board with the details of where, when, etc and the only thing that is necessary is RSVPs. Make life so much simpler! I for one would be happy to attend the venue Cherie has suggested and I think Rose’s suggestion of a community hall for other meetings (except for Christmas because it really needs to be a special venue for Christmas) is an excellent one. Kind regards Leanne from Gold Coast
Guest guest
Please note on my previous message I cut and pasted into the wrong place “Please note that this would not stop any member wanting to organise a Sydband social themselves from doing so” should have been at the end of the third paragraph regarding the Moderators Meeting. Guest guest
I will throw in The Oakes at Neutral Bay suggestion again just because its such a nice venue with loads of space and not much of a problem booking nearer the time. Guest guest
Hi Leanne, If I bring a small Christmas tree and sing some Christmas carols, would the community hall then count as a special venue? Now...., who wants to dress up as santa? cheeky me, luv Rose. > > Hi Cherie and all, > > I agree with you 100% in all your points raised. Guest guest
Hi all I'm just going to have my 5 cents worth on the moderators being responsible for determining the socials. In this particular instance Mazz has offered to oversee the proceedings. Cherie, Elaine, Rose and - none of them moderators have come up with suggestions. I think it is very democratic for the group that is going to attend to make the decision where they'd like to go. I think I'm right in saying that 4 of our moderators aren't Sydney based people. I therefore am happy to have suggestions from the likes of Cherie who is involved in event organisation as part of her work and has eaten at the place suggested. We are still a small group and those that attend the functions are known to each other. I can't see why we can't continue on the path we have previously. People putting suggestions forward, mixing locations, etc. More power to the people I say! LOL Regards Lorraine > > Hi Cherie and all, > > I agree with you 100% in all your points raised. Guest guest
Hi Lorraine (and Mazz) - you know what the hardest thing is going to be about this lunch - is choosing. I think the Oakes is a great idea too - fits all the criteria with the biggest one in my mind being that we can be at a place for unlimited time. Now that this is on the list my little brain is wanting to vote twice when the polls hit the board in a couple of weeks - drats - decisions, decisions .....
