Guest guest
I'm really happy about the enthusiasm on the list about helping each other, but I need to inject a word of caution & an observation. first, the issue of consistency with meds that appear to be causing problems is a difficult one Some people tolerate meds very well, although that can radically change. Some get alarming side effects no matter how they take them. This is a very personal situation. I tolerated high doses of NSAIDS for about 18 years, and my doctor kept me on them even when that tolerance began to break down. His reasoning was that I had tolerated them well before, so the problems, addressed with diet and stomach medication, could probably be transient. Since I relied on the meds to function, I wanted the doctor's position to be right. However it was wrong and I nearly died of toxemia after my stomach & peritoneum perforated very suddenly. Was the doctor wrong in his advice or was I wrong not to heed my body's warnings? The entire course of treatment was a calculated risk that bought me a long period of more functional time. We both knew the risks, and the unpleasant surprise was really not such a surprise. We're struggling with situations where often we are on the leas undesirable course of treatment, not a clear good choice.
