I have a lot of muscular tension in my body where there is so much in my neck that not enough blood gets through so my hair is brittle and sticks up on end. I have hypoglycemea too so I crave even more food soon after eating and this is causing weight gain. My skin is very dry on my face which was caused by mianserin, an antidepressant I took for a while years ago, and this never went back to normal despite stopping the drug. Many of those symptoms you have I also had and most are gone now, and my other symptoms will go eventually too when I eventually find peace and contentment again.

A very good book for people who are depressed, very stressed, or deeply unhappy, is Dr Burns, Feeling Good. The brain is neuroplastic and gets changed by drugs and chronic stress but through self development, or therapy, the can brain recover and renew itself regaining its normal function. In my case, there is going to be a lot of time involved, but inch by inch, development is taking place. Healing can't be rushed, but the body has an immense capacity to renew.

If you are able to focus your attention to some degree (I can't t the moment - my brain is full of chattering monkeys) then the Open Focus technique can realy quiten the brain soothing it which promotes healing. It is even very effective for ADHD and the drugs can be completely given up. Hooray!

The thing that is killing you is the despair, but if you can find hope things will soon start to improve. You can get better, but only after you stopped frightening yourself so much.

In the Plastic Mind, Sharon Begley, describes how the brain can recover and great happines can be regained.

I hope this lot cheers you up a bit:

Neuroplasticity(brain's ability to change)and Psychotherapy in Toronto

The brain can actually change its own structure and function, even into old age. Understanding that the brain can heal itself and that the brain is capable of dramatic change is arguably the most important breakthrough in neuroscience since scientists first sketched out the brain's basic functions.

Neurons and neural networks in the brain have the capacity to change their connections and behaviour in response to new information, sensory stimulation, development, damage, or dysfunction. Although neural networks carry out specific functions, they retain the capacity to deviate from their usual functions and to reorganize themselves. In fact, for many years, it was considered dogma in the neurosciences that certain functions were hard-wired in specific, localized regions of the brain and that any incidents of brain change or recovery were mere exceptions to the rule.

Neuroplasticity not only gives hope to those with mental limitations, or what was thought to be incurable brain damage, but expands our understanding of the healthy brain and the resilience of human nature.

Therapy can actually heal these disorders and correct the brain. Also, if clients realize that they have the personal power to overcome the intense dogma of being diagnosed with a psychological disorder then they can self-heal and correct these areas of the brain through retraining and encouragement from the therapist. Therapists must then be educated on techniques that have been shown to prevent and correct these psychological symptoms.

Young or old, the brain still creates new neurons: http://www.psychotherapycanada.com/The%20Brain.htm

"Be not afraid of changing slowly; be afraid only of standing still." Chinese Proverb

The latest discoveries in neuroscience present a new view of how the brain ages. Overturning decades of dogma, scientists recently discovered that even into our seventies, our brains continue producing new neurons. Scientists no longer hold the longstanding belief that we lose vast numbers of brain cells as we grow older. The normal aging process leaves most mental functions intact, and may even provide the brain with unique advantages that form the basis for wisdom. The aging brain is also far more resilient than was previously believed.

About a month ago I went to a natural pharmacist and he determined that I have

hypothyroidism type 2 (something I always suspected I had but doctors always

told me that my thyroid test results were " normal " )and low adrenal gland

functioning (no surprise there).

I mention this to you because a lot of your symptoms sound like signs of adrenal

fatigue and hypothyroidism. I too have many of the symptoms of both.

Here's a good chart:

http://www.drlam.com/articles/adrenalfatiguevshypothyroidism.asp

I have been on lots of new homeopathic treatments and have noticed some very

positive improvements both physically and mentally. Since being on the natural

thyroid supplement I feel better than I've felt in many, many years.

Is it possible for you to go to a natural practitioner of some sort - not a

docotor who would run blood tests and conculde that you are " fine " and/or

prescribe man-made garbage?

Also B12 and B6, fish oil, Vitamin D plus all natural diet and daily exercise

helped with a lot with my brain issues (fogginess, depersonalization, anhedonia,

etc.)

Yes I do know about these.Infact I'm a loooooong way ahead of all these things.

I'm not gonna take any hormones.HRT is bad. It's like antibiotics with side

effects.

I will cure naturally with fixing the gut, correcting methylation, detoxing the

liver and soon will be doing genetic testing.

Will report back soon after I finished killing candida but I can tell you

checking for food sensitivy is a start.

I quit eating gluten 2 weeks ago and the arthiritis and fire truck red knuckles

have been fully cured and restored to normal and my hands get better each day.

Now imagine what impact it has in the inside of my body.

You must not forget that there are people who don't suffer any kind of

withdrawal from SSRIs.

You must understand and accept, that we were already ill, genetically prone to

things due to birth defect.

By the way I think 99% of people here have adrenal fatigue. If it's not in a

severe stage then vitamin C (2-4 g daily, split the doses to 4-5 during the day)

+ Rhodiola Rosea. If you are interested I can tell you about the stressors which

hold back adrenals to heal. One of them is computer use and watching television

or going to bed after 10 pm.

Take care!

Yes, I agree HRT is very bad and I will never do that either. I have a friend

who was put on synthroid for years and felt terrible, then recently went to a

new doctor who put her on natural throid supplement and now feels great. And

personally, I feel amazing since being on this natural thyroid supplement.

Man-made hormones are poison. I'm living proof of that having been put on birth

control pills (not for birth control purposes just to regulate my periods) at

age 17 and thus suffering the female equivalency of being chemically castrated.

BCP are as bad as SSRI's in my opinion!!!

I too have been killing candida and have eliminated grains and sugars from my

diet and have added probiotics in hopes of restoring gut health.

I am also taking holy basil to couteract stress.

I think the combination of the natural thyroid supplement, elimination of carbs,

and the holy basil is resposible for my recent noticable improvements.

After my next appointment with the natural pharmacist the plan is for me to do

some cleansing since my liver most certainly needs detoxification too.

Thanks for the tip about computer/bed/TV and adrenals. If there are more things

that stress adrenals, I'd be interested to know about them.

Sounds like you are on top of things and I'm glad to hear that you are seeing

improvements and I wish you a full recovery!!

If I may chime in, I would consider looking at a natural thyroid medication

rather than Synthroid which is synthetic and only contains the T4 form of the

thyroid hormone. Your body also has T3. Natural thyroid such as Armour or

Naturethroid have both T3 & T4 in a mix similar to your body. I am also

hypothyroid and am unable to convert T4 to T3 so synthroid for me is useless. A

combo of both works wonders. If your thyroid is low it can cause sexual

dysfunction. In the beginning of my PSSD I had total genital numbness and did

not take any thyroid supplements. I now do and the numbness has pretty much

gone away. I'm not sure if it is due to the thyroid or just the healing process

that has been taking place over the past 3 1/2 years. None-the-less, my

hypothyroid symptoms have been effectively treated on natural thyroid.

For more info on the T3 / T4 issue, go to Google and search " T4 only treatment "

and you will see that for a huge number of people Synthroid doesn't completely

work. You may go round and round with your Dr. about it because most, as we

have all learned, are pro pharmaceuticals and anti-natural, but check it out and

find a Dr. who will work with you on the natural T3/T4 combo.

Hi Adam,

I am certainly not an expert but can give you my theory.

I just posted a little while ago that I believe my pssd was caused by doctors

changing my antidepressants - from zoloft to cymbalta to remeron to lexapro.

It sounds like something similar in your case going from paxil to lexapro then

luvox.

Did you notice any negative changes when you went on lexapro? Or did it just

hit you with luvox? My doctor gave me the impression that lexapro caused

genital anesthesia in a lot of patients that he prescribed it to.

As far as the synthroid, I don't have any experience with that. I just truly

believe that man-made hormones are horribly destructive.

Unfortunately I was only on Prozac so that theory doesn't work for me.
