Toni, we are for you!!!! We all experience the same feelings even though

our pain might be from very different things. We share our feelings

about our pain, research on our pain, humor, life, rantings, anything you

want. You will find some of the most loving people with care and

sensitivity here ( but don't tell that to Mike, cause he doesn't want

anyone to know tht about him OK?). They are also some of the most

educated and intelligent people about chronic pain and other medical

issues that I have had the good pleasure to run into.

Welcome, sorry you need us. But very glad you found us and are here.

You can read a little about me in my website below. Feel free to ask

anything.

First day back on the job and you're already taking pot shots at me ? I

see your stay in the hospital hasn't mellowed you out any !

Good to have you back and in fighting spirit !

Hi Toni,

Think you came to the right teary-eyed bunch. We're having a special on

carpal-tunnel this week. Being given a morbid outlook on your condition can be

par for the course. When I was a little older than you, was told something

similar, & took it as a death sentence, Ten years later, when I gained enough

confidence ( & symptom control) wanted to go back & throttle the doc, but it was

too late. Think he may have died, or was killed by one of his pts. for advice

like you got. There appears to be a lot that can be done for carpal-tunnel.

Surgery has not been a great help to one person I know, but it was done by an

orthopedist. Generally good neurosurgeons do a little better on nerve

conditions. There should be some realistic medication options, and you may be

getting somewhat discriminated against by traditional medical thinking, where

docs are reluctant to give more powerful pain-killers, and sometimes even

nsaids, to people of your age range. I think you could go back to your doc &

let him/her know that hopefully with a long life ahead, you are not prepared to

accept doctors giving up on you just yet. You might also get a more detailed

explanation of why this opinion was given, since this certainly has major,

serious impact on your life. Try to fight discouragement. I think almost

everyone here has gotten similar runarounds. Also, try & get as much

understandable information on your condition. You may end up being the ultimate

administrator for getting appropriate care. I'm certain people here could help

you with resources, and, like they say, " knowledge is power. "
