I’ve just

about concluded that my last attack was brought on by something in the food I’d

eaten for lunch. I’ve walked similar distances in similar (or even hotter)

weather without an attack. I either inhaled an allergen that I couldn’t smell,

or it was in the food.

Hi

all: This is probably the first time I heard of feed being the

cause of asthma. I know there are certain additives that one should

stay away from but a whole list of food? I have many. many

allergies but never thought of being tested for food. Please any

information would be greatly appreciated.

Blessings Maureen

Hi Maureen,

I have been learning a lot about foods and how they affect my asthma. There are many foods that can cause reactions but each person responds differently. I cant eat cantolope, honey dew melon, gluten, wheat, processed foods, white flour and sugar and I try and avoid dairy as much as possible. I am curious to talk to my doctor about this ALCAT blood test that mentioned since it may help identify other food sensitivities I may have. I found that keeping a journal of how I felt after eating different things was helpful in determining what caused a reaction so that I could learn to identify and avoid them in the future.

Hi everyone,

I have never been tested for food allergies, just the usual skin test for weeds, dust , cats , dogs etc. the usual stuff. But I have noticed that when I drink more than one glass of skim milk, especially at bed time, I do have a more difficult time with my breathing. Also I have noticed that when I eat watermelon same thing happens.

Milk products can congest you, not a good thing to take when all stuffed

up and can't breathe..

Best way to track down food allergies is to keep a food diary, although

test can be done for them.

Oh, I could, but the first time I sat in an armchair I’d probably break

it. It is about 6” long and 3/8” in diameter. I got it when I was taking

allergy shots, and wasn’t concerned about carrying it. I’ll have to talk to my Pulmonologist

about getting a smaller one. My new boss has given me a nebulizer that his wife

(now deceased) used. It is a ProNeb. I don’t know much about it and will have

to speak with the Pulmonologist about it, too.

Nebulizers are darn good, they do use mainly albuterol type of meds with

a saline solution, but deliver the meds etter to your lungs than an

inhaler.

Basically it's the treatment they give you in the hospital...for me it

has meant no ER visits.
